Infant/Child Safety and CPR
I just signed Dale and I up to take another class at Moore Medical Center. They offer a Infant/Child safety and CPR class once a month. We will be taking the class from 7-9 pm on Friday, November 21st. The class teaches basic child safety, injury prevention, how to assist the choking infant and child, and CPR techniques. They told me it was either free or only $25. Either way I don't care. I think this is something every parent should take. Like I told Dale, it is important to know what to do in an emergency, especially if the baby stops breathing. There is no price when it comes to Brooklyn's life. I am very excited about having the chance to learn how to take care of her.
Prepared Childbirth Classes
Dale and I are signed up for Prepared Childbirth Classes at Moore Medical Center. Since we will be delivering Brooklyn there the classes are free. We start classes on Tuesday, October 14th. We then have four more weeks of the classes after that. We will be going every Tuesday night from 7 - 9:30. We should be done by Thanksgiving and in plenty of time before Brooklyn is suppose to arrive. I am actually looking forward to it all because they should give me a greater idea of what I should/could expect. Dale on the other hand, not so thrilled. Hopefully he will come to find the idea more amusing once we go and he learns something new. He'll make a great coach though, I can already tell.
I'm looking forward to hearing the good, bad, and ugly about it all. I'll update about the first class once it gets here. It's just another thing to look forward to in our busy, soon to be hectic schedule!

3D/4D Ultrasound
This morning we had an appointment at the Moore Norman Vo-Tech to have a 3D/4D ultrasound done. I have been waiting for this day forever it seems! The school has a program where you pay only $10 and a student in training performs the ultrasound on you for practice. This is a great deal if you can get an appointment. The student tech told us that most babies only cooperate about 25% of the time. Most of the time expecting parents leave with little to nothing because the baby is facing the wrong way or somehow has their face blocked.
So getting started, the first thing we noticed... Brooklyn had her hands covering her face. No joke! She is SO stubborn and ornery. She had one hand by her mouth, which we think she was sucking on her thumb, and then the other just up by her face. We tried for about 10 minutes to get her to move around and move her hands away from her face so we could get a clear picture of the front of her face. She wouldn't have it. So most of our pictures are ones with her hands blocking her face.
We also had the student tech check to make triple sure it was a girl. She looked and sure enough, Brooklyn is definitely all girl. So now Dale and I can start making our the baby registries! I am trying to talk him into doing that this weekend. ;o)
So after checking the gender again, and having me move on one side, then to my back, then to my other side, then back to my back again, we made Brooklyn mad! Dale got to see her kick on the monitor, which he thought was pretty cool. We also got to see for a short second, Brooklyn opening and closing her mouth. She got the hiccups for a few seconds.
Then, tired of us pushing her around and trying to move her all about, she decided she was done. Brooklyn took her hands away from her face, and then turned and faced my back so we couldn't get a clear shot of her face at all!! All we could see is her spine and the back of her head! The student tech worked around her a little bit and we have a couple of good side profile pictures of Brooklyn without her hands in her face, but that is it.
So from the side profile pictures, I am thinking she has Dale's facial features. It looks like she has chubby checks and dimples and his nose. Dale is afraid she doesn't have a chin, but I think she does. I also think she has big eyes, but those would be from me. I've thought she was going to look like Dale since the last ultrasound though. Her head is perfectly round too. According to Grandma Belinda, Dale's head was perfectly round.
When it comes to the rest of her, she has features that I can definitely see my influence. Her hands for instance... Brooklyn's fingers are SO long. Her hands in all the pictures look huge. She also has big feet, though she could have gotten that from me or her daddy. She looks long and slender though. Unless she starts gaining a lot of weight soon, I think she is going to just be skinny and long when she is born.
The student tech took the measurements of her head and all her bones and said that from the measurements, she is currently 2 pounds 7 ounces. They said that from her size they think I am about 27 weeks and 3 days along and they showed my due date to be December 23rd! They told me to stick with the date that Dr. Fletcher has given me though.
Brooklyn is perfectly healthy though. She is growing at the right rate and has all her long fingers and toes and has become VERY good at moving around! We have about 8 pictures or so from this ultrasound. As soon as I can get Dale to scan the pictures, I will have them posted here on the blog. I will try to get that done by tomorrow evening or this weekend at the latest so keep checking back!

27 Week Doctor Appointment
On Thursday, September 25th, 2008, I had my 27 week routine check up with Dr. Fletcher. I walked in with another list of questions this time and was prepared for the blood work and everything else that was suppose to come my way.
The tech that I like called me back to take all the vitals. They took my weight and I have only gained one pound in the past month from my last appointment. I couldn't believe it. I asked her if she was sure because I feel like I have gained 20 pounds! She said just one pound and that I was doing well. I guess all of my weight is just shifting around because with how big my belly has gotten in the past few weeks, I don't see how I haven't gained more!
Then she measured my belly and I was right on for measurements at 27 weeks. Next she started to press around on my belly to find Brooklyn. It didn't take her long because Brooklyn kicked her! Then the whole time she was listening and measuring her heart beats, Brooklyn was busy kicking away. They tech was cracking up at how much she was moving around. The past few times I have gone, Brooklyn starts kicking when the tech tries to take all the vitals. Brooklyn's heart beat was at 154 this time. Good and healthy. My blood pressure was also excellent again. The tech said I am doing great with staying healthy and maintaining my weight and blood pressure. I feel like I could do more though, like start walking and exercising more.
Next I met with Dr. Fletcher. She echoed what the tech said. She told me the fact that I have only gained one pound isn't anything to worry about right now. I asked her about the due date and if that would or had changed. She told me no. That when she gives a due date it will never change. So the official due date is still December 22nd.
We then discussed inducing labor. I expressed my fear of being stuck in the hospital over Christmas Eve or on Christmas Day. She said she policy for inducing labor was she would do so if she felt the baby was healthy and ready up to 10 days before the due date that she gave. So if Brooklyn is not here by December 22nd, we are considering trying to make her arrive. We would only do this assuming everything was ok with her and that it wouldn't affect her health in any way. It will just be something that will be addressed on needed basis the closer the time gets.
As for the gluclose/ gestational diabetes test they were suppose to perform, well they ran out of time. So now I have to find some time this next week to go in early in the morning. They said the test takes an hour to do. I have to drink some sugar drink, then wait an hour and then I have to have blood work done. At that point they will know if I have developed or if I am at risk for gestational diabetes.
Other than that, everything else was fine. I have to start going back to the doctor every two weeks now. I will do this until around Thanksgiving when I will start going at least once every week. My next appointment is set for October 9th at 3 o'clock. I will be 29 weeks along then. After that, my next appointment is October 23rd at 8:30 in the morning. I will be 31 weeks along at that point.
So that is the latest news from the doctor. More to come soon!

Baby Costumes
It has begun. Brooklyn's collection of costumes/ outfits has officially started.
So last Friday night, September 12th, our friend Mike messages me. Mike and his wife co-run Once Upon A Childhood child consignment store down the street from our house. Knowing that Dale and I were wanting to look for different costumes for Brooklyn to dress up in, he told us that the next morning when they opened the store, all of their Halloween costumes would be out. So of course, we were there!
They had all kinds of cool costumes from baby size all the way up. Some new, some barely used, and all priced really cheap! Most of the costumes that Brooklyn could have worn within the next year were way too big in bulky. We did find some outfits though! The costume/outfits that we got are more like sleepers with the little footsies and hoods on them. They are perfect for her to wear to keep her nice and warm this winter. We walked away with a bear, penguin, cow, pink bunny, and tiger outfit all for a little over $30!
We were so excited about them all. Next year we should be able to go back and get more. We are also going to be looking out at the stores for costumes after Halloween this year. Nothing big and bulky. Just something cute, that is an animal( Dale's requirements), to keep her warm. I've posted the pictures of the costumes below. She also has a turtle costume that we got shortly after we found out Brooklyn was coming. So far though the bear and the penguin costumes are my favorite. They are so soft and cuddly and I know Brooklyn is going to look SO cute in all of them. I can't wait for her to wear them!

Brooklyn and Daddy
I am SO excited because Dale finally felt and saw Brooklyn move for the first time last Friday, August 29th! We were just sitting on the couch and Brooklyn started kicking the crap out of me, which has become a normal occurrence lately. She then had the hiccups at which point I had her daddy feel my belly and he felt her move! It was so neat because we were both sitting there watching my belly move around! Dale had said he thought he felt her move about a week earlier, but he wasn't sure because it was so faint. She really let him know she was there this time though!
Another thing about Brooklyn and her daddy... when Brooklyn starts moving around a bunch and kicking, punching, doing flips, or whatever, I have her daddy talk to her. She already knows and responds to his voice! Dale talks to Brooklyn a lot, every night, especially right before we go to bed. He'll tell her her loves her, or as he says, "E be dah." (Latka Gravas' words for I love you from the show Taxi) Brooklyn responds to him so well already though. Her daddy refers to her as Puppy, which I am sure will stick as his nickname for her after she is here. When she's moving all about and her daddy starts talking to her though, she calms right down. He'll pat my belly or hold my tummy and it is like she knows he is there comforting her. Then every time, when he stops talking to her, about a couple of seconds later she'll start up again. She loves hearing his voice!
So needless to say, she will definitely be a daddy's girl. I am pretty sure she will have her daddy wrapped right around her little finger. All I have to tell him now is "Dale, talk to your daughter," and she's usually all better! His next goal is to try to get her to kick me on command.... hopefully that won't work out! :)
